Hi guys,
With Leeds Victoria only building on its member base, I think it's natural if we continue to step in the right direction and at least attempt to sponsor a player. It's something I've wanted to do for a while, but we've never really had the money to do it.
I think we have around $300 in the kitty, plus we could all chip with donations to pay for it all. I will approach my mate at Leeds if we can get enough interested parties and find out all the costs, but can everyone just simply list if they are interested in this?
Obviously the natural choice would be to sponsor Neil Kilkenny. If we can, it'll only increase the bond between the LUV Ambassador and LUV, itself. It means we are contributing to the club, will be in the match program every week and get a visit to the training ground etc.....
If everyone can post below on whether they are interested and who'd they like to sponsor, that'd be great - and then I can contact Leeds and we can start to organise this.
Cheers guys - ON ON ON |

To be honest, I'd prefer the money to stay in Australia and go towards Leeds United Victoria...Players arnt exactly on minimum wage over there (even in division 3) and what ever we could afford would pale in significance compared to a lot of other sponsorships (Kaiser Chiefs for example...)
If I'm the only one to object then bad luck to me, but thats just my opinion. |

I just had a look at the funds.. we currently have a massive $90
this is:
A) due to the fact that some polo's were never paid for
b) free membership this current season
so as we speak there is no possibility of sponsoring a player, unless we held a fundraising day/night.
With this in mind i think its probably better to build our funds for time being and support the members in victoria.
The time will come when we can look at this more seriously.. but check it out jimmy, gives us an idea of what sorta money is needed. |

Did Eddie actually end up getting the polo? Rumors are James finally paid for his polo 2 days ago. Not confirmed but that's the word on the street..
I have no problems eventually sponsoring a player once we get the right amount of funds. Kilkenny being the obvious choice, if not, then perhaps a younger player coming through the ranks.
Understand your point of view though Liam. Also want to eventually get some flags made up so funds for set-up costs etc will be handy. I think we can manage both though and also, we have to start thinking about how we want to price memberships for the coming season. If we need funds, perhaps we'll have to charge a join fee this season? |

Didn't realise we didn't have our house in order...should be main priority. Dave, has Ed not paid for a polo shirt? I will get onto him about it ASAP.
FYI Liam, I'm not 99% sure this money doesn't go to the players. It's like a local footy club scenario where a friends business might sponsor you, but the money goes directly to the club to help with costs etc. Very positive Kilks won't be getting our $10 a month on top of his wages...
Money to the club, we get recognition, a certificate, allows us to be a 'proactive' group, in the match programme every week, invites to players functions/trips to training ground.
I don't see why we shouldn't at least try and make this happen...
Definitely charge again for memberships too, "just because we aren't in the Championship" isn't a good reason imo. Even if we only get 20 members, we will bring in $600 - so maybe a couple hundred profit. We can get more I think.
Fundraising etc shouldn't be too hard...maybe have a Members Day at the start of the year. Have it at Donny Rovers, watch a DVD or something, drinks at the bar, sell sausages/burgers etc. Organise Leeds Vic friendlies at Donny Rovers - pay for the ground hire, take 50% of the bar, sell food there...any other ideas people?
Last year was a bit of a disappointing one in terms of stuff we actually did, it'd be nice to get a few more things achieved this season... |

Nah he never got a polo. I didn't think he did. I have none left anyway. He reckons he gave $30 to you a while back? Said not to worry about us giving it back and just keep it as a donation. |
