In the last few weeks, their has been a lot of discussion on who will place Peninsula Strikers in the Bayside Premier League for the 2008 season. The decision has been made; we have even gone to the people with a poll with two choices, Cerberus or Mornington. So with great pleasure, we now announce to the world, the team to go into the 2008 Bayside Premier League is…..

Montrose. The club has done a reverse relegation from the Division 1 to now be in the Premier League. So how did this happen?

Mornington Glory / Pirates formally asked to move into the vacant position as they finished third in the Division 1. Whilst they did protest it was at the time the league intention to move them up as we cannot have two byes, seniors and reserves, as this would need to cull teams out of the league.

Another choice was to move Cerberus up with a bye in the reserves. Cerberus finished second in the division 1 in 2007 behind Baxter Eagles and with solid league positions in the past was not so bad of an idea. Except the problem of needing a bye in the reserves that could go to another team.

But at the last league meeting it was also asked of other clubs that if they would like to move into the Premier League to let us know. Montrose did enquire, and I can tell you with great enthusiasm. They have seen this as challenge, one that is hoped to take the club forward in many years to come.

In the few seasons, Montrose has turned the corner; they have been a hard working, enthusiastic club and one that those involved should be proud of. Whilst the results on the pitch have been perhaps as good as they hoped for, they have done a lot of work off the pitch to in their bid to create a stable and a strong social club. This is the first step needed for any club to have a long and sustainable future.

Now with this done, the fixtures will be concluded very shortly.
