After collating all the votes, we'll make an announcement and get a trophy made up. Post this, we can speak to the club about presenting it. If anyone is over there between the start of the season and January, they can present it. If not, I can do it when I'm over there. We'll get a photo with the winner holding his trophy, a good keepsake for the photo gallery!

BECKFORD WINS LUSC VICTORIA PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Prolific striker Jermaine Beckford has added another prestigious award to his footballing resume, by claiming the LUSC Victoria Player of the Year for 2007/08. Beckford is the second winner of this award, after goalkeeper Casper Ankegren claimed it last season.

Beckford, who netted 20 goals in the league for Leeds, capped off a fine season by winning the Coca-Cola League 1 Player of the Year. He recieved a perfect score from over 75% of voters and won the award by nine votes. He scored braces on several occasions, the highlights being his overhead kick against Bristol Rovers from 18 yards and his exquisite chip from beyond the penalty area against Hartlepool at Elland Road.

Beckford finished nine votes ahead of second placed Ankegren, who was to show outstanding loyalty to stay with the club during the off-season and to save Leeds on many occasions this year. Cult-hero David Prutton wrapped up the places, finishing third in a season that featured several brilliant quotes and some cracking goals from distance.

Other players that featured prominently in the voting were loan signing Dougie Freedman, youngster Jonny Howson, Angolan centre-half Rui Marques and the ambassador of LUSC Victoria, Neil Kilkenny.

LUSC Victoria is looking forward to the upcoming season and will have membership packages available before the start of the new campaign.
