Hey guys,
As I've eluded to a few of you privately, a few of us footy fans arnt too pleased with the way top flight football clubs are being run in this country.
So I proposed that we did something about it, and a lot of people have shown interest.
Victoria, or Australia for that matter lacks a real Australian football club. So I thought it was about time a few likeminded people got off their ass and started one.
My basic proposal is that we (collective football fans) started an Australian club with an Australian name, which welcomes all, fans and players alike.
The club would start in provisional 3, and would require about 15k start up cash. Depending on interest, players would either trial to be part of a 26-man squad, or just join and either play seniors or reserves.
Myself and a few others have worked on a balance spreadsheet and we believe that we can achieve this, and we believe their is no limit to how big the club could become, but it needs support to get off the ground.
So if any of you are slightly interested in helping out, playing, coaching, being part of a commitee, being ball boy etc...Keep your head poked in this thread...A meeting will be organised for late january where we will discuss the objectives of the club further.
Any questions dont hesitate to ask, dont be afraid to tell anyone who might be slightly interested. The more hands on deck the better. |

Admire your efforts Liam but I hope everyone realises the massive committment and organisation it will require to make this work. Clubs are usually planned for years before their inception and I think thorough research is required.
As I have told you privately i'm interested but will need to know more information and feel confident in the product itself.
I do however think that the club name should not bare any reference to anything A-League or supporter group related. This will alienate any interested parties coming from other backgrounds such as different states, different views and those just generally unaware. A football club for the people needs to be exactly that, for everyone. Not North End, not South End, not Melbourne fans, not Leeds fans, it needs to make everyone feel comfortable. |

Agree with all that mate.
The earliest we would enter our club in any league is 2009, and thats not untill enough money is raised to keep it a float for at least a few years.
The name would be an interesting one, Im guessing it'd be 'Melbourne something', but yeah you're right it cant encompass just a corner of the people. I suppose all this will be discussed when we meet. |

You prob need someone who can create a succession plan for you... this isn’t something you want to take lightly... as Sammy said research has to be done... eg club house? Location? Fee? Growth spots? Sponsorship? It endless and will take a huge effort... good luck mate.. i cant commit to anything but im interested in what your doing. |

Guys I'm not stupid and I realise its a huge commitment. Football is my life, MVFC have dented my enjoyment of it but I would be willing to put everything, time and finances, into a club that caters for my basic needs, which is to grow ethically for the good of football.
Obviously I won't be able to do everything by myself but I am not the only one interested in doing this. As I said more hands on deck the better.
15k isnt that much. 7.5k of it would be player rego, 2.5 of it sponsership and the rest would be from memberships/donations from like minded people.
Clubrooms, equipment, all the logistics would be decided on in due course (time is no factor) but the reason I started this thread was just to show that it is happening.
I cant support MVFC or any ethnic club in the VPL, so really, I dont have any choice because Im sure as fuck that I'm not going to just do nothing and let my support and football in general in this country suffer. |

Liam - Interesting concept, good luck with that - if you need/want any advice feel free to ask
On a sep point, I keep reading your disillusionment with MVFC. Whilst I can and do understand and agree with some of the disillusionment, I KNOW that what is being reported by other superheroes on the darkside is PURE CRAP (not all of it, but a large amount)
Being pissed of with a club is what makes being a fan "fun". I had to follow Leeds when Bremner and Clarke were managers (and were shit as managers too) so you couldnt slag off the manager as they are Holy names at Leeds. I also followed Leeds thru the Venebales era as we plummetted and became the laughing stock of the football everywhere
Stick with MVFC, if for nothing else then remember these moments:
Sydeny 5-0 at OP
North East South West chant at OP in the l;ast game there vs NZKnights
Robinsons last minute winner at TD vs Inbreds
THE grand final
"I am Victorian" chant
Meeting me!! Well meeting a whole section of new mates, to have a beer and have a laugh at
All the craic in the South End
It will all get sorted, dont listen to the doomsayers. This has the begini9ngs of a Mighty Club here in Melbourne. Get behind it, get the next shout in, and chant your bollox off
