Re-bumping this, with an idea

Dont know if its any good or not, but....

Why dont we have our first 07/08 LUV Meeting on the day of the first MVFC Home Game

Forget about being "hard" in a terrace, forget about the Burberry Undies your granny gave you, forget about $150 fake Red <shudder> football tops that cost a fiver in a sweatshop in Thailand...

Instead beer, good craic, a laugh about Leeds, and meet up with some old friends...

We're all going to be there (in the city) anyway, so why not all meet up then and there???

i reckon we need to find a quiet place because i dont want idiot victory to come up and start bagging our club
just had a thought
i've just finished working at QBH (Flanagans) and its always very quiet
i worked there for 9 months so i reckon i could get some sort of deal
maybe some drink cards
its not the closest pub to TD though probably bout 15 mins walk

doesnt worry if it wasnt there i just think it should somewhere quiet before we embrace victorymania

Would be good to pick a new pub this season. I'd love to stick around at RMH but that place will be way to crowded and it'll be too hard to get a beer this season! Mad

Here are a few that sound the goods. All around the corner from the Dome so we won't have to walk far. There are a few to choose from. If I missed one, feel free to add it. Yes, I've done my homework on this! Laughing

Quote:
Brux Bar
582 Little Collins Street, Melbourne

Whilst Brux Bar has a European style to it, it's completely different to an Irish pub. It's very upmarket, corporate, and fussy about its beer selection.

That first impression is of a large, light wooden room, perhaps similar to a degree to the front bar at Young and Jackson's. It's comfortingly bright, and keeps both standing-crowd and sitting-crowd happy, with enough nooks and crannies for handbags, umbrellas, and the like.

Significant architectural touches are found behind the bar, with the shelves styled in a French gothic look. And that works well to maintain the focus.

Beers wise, a large tap selection impressed, featuring a range of brews.

An upstairs restaurant and outside seating also feature.

Quote:
The Fiddler
577 Little Collins Street, Melbourne

The first impression of The Fiddler is that it's rather dark inside, whereas most Irish pubs tend to be a little brighter. It's absolutely crammed full of nooks and crannies, and has enough wood panelling to keep anyone happy. Cosy booths here are good for a couple of quiet ones or a quick weekday lunch - the kitchen offers a variety of hearty pub meals or quick snacks. After-work drinks are popular here, too. Actually, there's a band area right down the back giving live entertainment several nights a week once daylight fades. And let's not forget the DJ who fires up Friday nights with the latest pop and dance music.

Located on Little Collins Street between King and Spencer Streets, Fiddler has several levels with a function space to boot.

Quote:
Franc's
495 Collins Street, Melbourne

Franc's is an English style bar located off the hotel foyer of the Le Meridien at Rialto building, overlooking busy Collins Street. Carpetted and old world cozy, Franc's is does weekday lunches and popular Friday afternoon drinks. In fact, let's go one further and say Thursday drinks as well. It's a great 50:50 split of male/female, too. Top notch for a relaxed corporate beer.

Quote:
Menzies Tavern
525 Little Collins Street, Melbourne

Menzies Tavern impresses in the summer with a massive pavement section out front set up with individual chairs and tables, with an atmosphere that stays very laid back.

Quote:
Colonial Hotel
585 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne

The Colonial combines the charm and comfort of a traditional hotel with the classic elegance of old school Melbourne. .If you seek choice drinking, conversation and people watching, The Colonial is the perfect destination.

dave used is good but you don't get much of an idea of what some of them are like, plus some dont have website
a pub crawl will enable us to determine the important things such as:
-atmosphere (many victory fans)
-beers (selection on tap)
-prices
-meals
etc

You do realise as soon as we start singing these pubs are going to give us the boot? I'd rather be at the Great Western or the Royal where there is atmosphere. I know it's packed and tough to get a beer but I really enjoy the pre-match.

I also won't have the cash to be forking out for pub lunches + 2+3 pints before every match. Maybe I suggest making it to 12-1pm meet up so we can go to other pubs before the game? I've got lots of mates at other pubs who I want to catch up with and I'm sure the rest of us are the same - also possibly better if we don't become a 'group' like the Ozspurs..look where that got them.

Agree with the idea and all and would be great to catch up with everyone again, how about we do something before the season starts? Still a couple of weeks to go...apologise for the negative tone in this post, just my thoughts!
