Wasn't an awesome trip but wasn't too bad either. Just so many things went wrong! Perth is a pretty nice place.
Started off having a beer and the first Leeds song of the trip in PJ's at the Airport before leaving the runway in rather dramatic fashion with several noises indicating the Tiger plane we were in wasn't going to be the best ride. Didn't really get much sleep on the way there unlike Kenner who was snoozing like a baby.
Was about 10-15 Melbourne fans on our plane but the large majority were your usual bunch of scarfers, wasn't too bad though. Got out of the airport and arrived at our hostel (which had been booked at 7:16pm - we flew out at 9:30pm - organisation was at a premium and discovered they actually had no beds there. Cue walking round Perth running into drunk sluts and Old Bill everywhere until about 2.30am (4.30 Melb time) when we finally got a room.
Woke up next day and really couldn't get too excited. Caught up with Paul and Ryan and first beer of the day was a Crownie with an English Brekky at about 9am. Also went for a walk around and got tooled up for the big day - $2 stanley knifes ole! We then walked in circles, on numerous occasions before getting to the pub allocated - The Brisbane Hotel. This joint was fucking stylish, I felt like I was in the Gold Coast - this beergarden had a water feature, couches and some beach setting. Was full of wannabe middle class scum though and we got booted for singing - cue a rendition of 'Fuck the Yuppies de de de' as we left.
We then walked - seemed like an eternity - to the Perth pub and parked ourselves there. Didn't seem like they got numbers till about 3.30 (1 1/2 hours before the game) cause we clearly outnumbered and outsung them beforehand. I foregoed plenty of drinking time to make banners which in the end didn't even make it in the stadium, as myself and Kenner's best mate - some cunt of a security guard - enjoyed his powertrip immensely. Lots of Perth fans kept saying to me and Liam in particular 'where's your shirt' as if it was offensive that we weren't adorned from head to toe in shit merchandise. Didn't really get the casual culture at all.
Once inside the stadium, we went hard for the first 30 minutes but died down big time in the second half. We were fucking terrible, no heart, no passion, no nothing - all game. Highlight of the game being the medley towards the end of the game featuring: Your not fit to wear the shirt/Burn down the Telstra Dome/Bomb the Telstra Dome/Singing Die Die Collins Fucking Die/We want Merrick out say we want Merrick Out/Sack the Board/We are not Criminals....wasn't too bad.
The fact that the players couldn't make the effort to simply wave or clap or come over to us was the thing that bugged me the most. Travel 3400 km's around the country for the longest trip in Oz Football and have to put up with that shit. Highly frustrating. Another showing of the club thinking they are bigger than the fans.
Probably 70-80 fans showed up, decent turn out but it certainly wasn't the trip of a lifetime... |

Got back from Perth tonight. Was meant to come back on the red eye last night but decided to part with a little bit more cash and stay an extra night. Was a good decision.
Had a awesome few days despite the shite served up by the players. Perth is a great city and I will definitely head back in the coming seasons.
Plane up was great. Jimmy just on fire, unleashing 4 hours of comedic material on us in a 10 minute spell!
The initial accommodation was a bit of a mess but we wandered around the streets and eventually found something. Ended up in a corporate suite which my small bedroom would put to shame! There was nothing corporate and nothing special about it!
North Bridge was mayhem Saturday night with women literally just running all over the place in the streets. Was quite humorous.
The Brisbane hotel which me kenner and James pretty much opened up was a decent pub but definitely looked far too trendy and up market for us. Was obvious we would get shown the door but was still good for the first hour or so that we were there.
The 2nd pub was ok as we could sing there and the bus trip was a great bonus.
The game itself was poor although our goal was an absolute cracker. As soon as he hit it I knew it was going in.
Myself, Kenner and a couple of others ventured down the shed end towards the midway of the 2nd half. Just wanted to have a listen so we stood on the concourse in front of the shed. Some genius security guard came up to us and told us we can't stand there so ushered us into the shed! hahaha. All 5 of us singing Melbourne songs and getting a bit of banter going. Was good fun.
I already had respect for Perth fans but Sunday just re-enforced that. They're genuine.
We saw a kid in a yellow Leeds kit at half time and were chanting 'We Are Leeds' at him. lol. He was either stunned there were more Leeds fans there or he actually had no idea who Leeds was. haha. Pretty much gave us donuts in return.
Then came a true highlight of the trip. The game had finished and we were standing at the back of the shed. We heard someone sing "MARCHING ONNNN". I looked at kenner and we immediately blasted out "TOGETHER, WE'RE GONNA SEE YOU WIN" etc etc. Turns out there was a Leeds lad there who is missing Leeds like crazy while in Perth and his mates were taking the piss out of him by singing Leeds songs.
Cue renditions of '15pts', 'MOT' again and again and 'Super Leeds United'! Was great!
We had a chat to the bloke and told him about our supporter group. Hopefully he finds his way to the forum.
Jimmy and kenner got some great photos from the trip which will no doubt find their way on here in due course.
If you're still reading this, good effort. |

Dave, if I was the highlight of your trip to Perth then mate, you're easily pleased!
Great work guys, and a really top site too - I've been meaning to get online since Sunday but it's taken me a couple of nights to read all the posts. You're right, I'm missing Leeds like crap - I've tried to get into the whole Perth Glory thing, but it just isn't the same animal is it! My mates tell me I'll be fully converted in a couple of years, but it's going to take a tad more than that to knock 30 years of ER out of me!
Got to give you credit for sticking with the lads - this is going to sound patronising, and I know that your team is your team regardless, but it's got to be hard seeing it through when we're playing the likes of Cheltenham and Yeovil and there's next to no chance of you seeing us play on the telly. Until the world stops going round as they say!
So, a couple of questions for you. Do you fellas have any branch polos or tees that I can buy, and do you know of any supporters club in Perth? I've emailed the Adelaide branch but the address bounces straight back, and I couldn't find a Perth website at all!
Anyway, great to meet you all at the game - same time next year?!
Tony. |

Anytime we run into another whites fan it's a highlight mate! Seems to happen wherever we go which is awesome.
Perth did have a supporter group but since we started in early '06, we've been unable to get in contact with them. So not sure if they're still around or not.
Adelaide don't have a huge presence online anymore although we have met them and remain in occasional contact.
Regarding polos, I'll have a look to see if I have any left and get back to you.
I'll definitely be heading to Perth again next year and I'm pretty sure there will be a couple of others in the same boat. Had a ripping time. We'll make sure to have a catch-up next seasone.
Glad you found the site. MOT Downunder! |

Time for the regular away trip summary. Last round of football for Melbourne and the 4th away trip for me for the season.
Woke up at 5am Sunday morning extremely tired and amongst spilling Nutri Grain all over my kitchen table found out we had got done at home by fucking Doncaster Rovers. Not a terrific start to the day but got a ride in with the old man. Greeted by a couple of mates at 6am (one who had been on the piss all night at Bon Jovi/one of our mates birthdays) and started to get in the mood. Was funny on the flight taking the piss out of some forumites on the plane. Once in Sydney got changed at airport - not too my amusement found that my jeans were soaked. No idea how but they were which meant until we got to the hotel I was going casual with Leeds trackies. lol.
Got to hotel and smashed some brekkie and then made the not so smart decision to get to the bat and ball at 10am. Had a beer and played a bit of pool until we got carded and that was the end of my fun. Gave this cunt behind the bar with the worst beard I'd ever seen major lip on my way out and bought a massive bottle of vodka and 8 red bulls - settled down in the park with Rusty who'd also got carded and slowly started feeling the effects.
Wandered back into the pub about 1pm and told this old lady that Lukeii was my dad. I had worded him up previous. She went over to Lukeii and in a smart move, he denied knowing me. Then 2 mins later told her we were cousins. Had to cop the burden of knowing lukeii would get a 6k fine if i was drinking so I decided to just sober up and enjoy the day. Had lots of fun and don't regret doing that at all.
Pub was OK - too many unknowns there early on but once Nomadi rocked up and we had most of AU there it was good. Awesome meals and relatively quick service. One absolute classic song is one I decided to belt out after me and Stef came up with it on the plane. Had all these people come up and introduce themselves afterwards lol, they all loved it. Bit of 'takin the piss and 'avin a laugh at South End. Goes like this....I am a South End man, I am a Phil Taylor Fan, I know what I want and I know where to get it, STANDING WITH THE YIDS AT THE BACK OF THE DICKENS, I wannaa seeeee darts on teeeveee!!! This went off and everyone loved it was quite humourous, even the yids singing in etc...
Unfortunately many got a bad perception of South End cause those old English guys inc that one with the mullet and his mates, started being absolute tossers at the pub telling main lads to get fucked and singing Ring of Fire every 30 seconds. They were quite annoying. March was okay, few flares done (what a waste!) and we did a scenic tour and ended up at the SCG. lol. Got to stadium and we all bunched up together and it was very enjoyable in first half - we were attacking down our end and weren't too bad. Being sober allowed me to take it all in and I was really enjoying it.
Word passed around at half time that we were going to witness a bit of a pyro show on kick off in second half - cue us scoring and 5 flares being ripped within 10 seconds. Everyone started to go fucking mental. Just as everyone died down from the goal at about 50 mins, it started absolutely pouring. Everyone lifted about 10 levels and off came tops and everyone just started going bananas and losing the plot. So much passion with smaller numbers, especially I was around all us AU, Nomadi and the one BWB who travelled - everyone was just off chops. The second goal was mayhem and after match scenes were priceless. We actually got thanked after the game! Wasn't much trouble - one Sydney lad decided to do a Dermie and walk through us and got some gear knicked but just settled back at the Bat and Ball, had some tea and was then spotted and kicked out. Went to the hotel and slept like a baby...got home came home etc..
Was the 2nd most enjoyable trip I've been on, Adelaide Away first time this year wins for mine. Both trips (with smaller amounts of people) seemed to have more main lads there and everyone there seemed so passionate. Many of our boys claimed it as their best trip and denying Sydney the premiership, whilst going fucking mental in the driving rain, watching them run under cover was pretty special.
I have written fucking lots haven't I! |

Good to see you had an awesome time mate. Looked like a hell of an away trip and one I wish I could have attended.
The away bay looked sensational on tv. Was hard to tell from where I watched the game but I could hear some of our chants come through as well.
All in all, great form by the travelling fans. |
