thread is titled 08/09 and it is 2008 so thought i'd see
as a teen i always said i'm going to england for the ashes in 09 (i loved cricket)
now i care about leeds 10x more than cricket
still would be alright to see a couple of days while i'm over there
love my live sport so much with mvfc in summer and essendon in winter
hard to give up seeing one of them for so long
so dont really know my time frame for going over
just depends how long i'll be overseas for as well |

Booking my trip as above this Saturday hopefully
Would love us to be in the CCC
From memory, we no longer have contact with Jan at the SC do we?
Does that mean we cant try and organise transport in any way?
Depending on fixtures, will probably have to bite the bullet and pay the 30 quid for the membership which means you can get access to away tickets |

Ahh I love this thread! Interesting to see how everyone has gone their different ways and great to look back on.
Personally, my plans have changed a fair bit. Looks like I will be going alone at this stage. I've saved up heaps of money (for me anyway) over the past two years and haven't missed a shift of work! I will be leaving early Feb 2009 after summer work at SEN has dried up, want to spend Xmas with the family etc.
When I get there, I've been guaranteed a two week work placement with Yorkshire Radio. Hopefully that will lead onto a job there, otherwise I'll have to look alternatively (working at the club, a local newspaper or radio station). If nothing in the media pans out, pub job it is I suppose. After I settle in, hopefully get a job, I'll be renting a flat or house on a six month lease somewhere in Yorkshire. Hopefully Headingley if possible - it's a great student area with bars/pubs/clubs/cheap meals everywhere. Also the cricket ground down the road, Leeds Rhinos also play in the Headingley complex and then ER about 20 mins away! Maybe Ex, you can offer some advice on if it's a good place? Also, when are you moving back over mate?
After the six months is up, I'll make a choice to stay there or come back home. University isn't a huge thing for me - the best degree in the business is a Certificate in Radio Broadcasting at TAFE anyway, or I can do Uni as a mature aged student (after I'm 21) so I won't be obligated to come back if I don't want to. The Ashes are on in the summer and the old man is coming over for the test at Headingley, plus I hope to do a bit of travelling with money saved up from work etc during the off-season. Catch as many homes and away (money permitting) as possible too.
Would love someone to travel with but it seems like we're all going at different times which is a shame. With two people, the cost of living is so much cheaper (ie bills/renting) and gives you much more cash for travelling/Leeds matches!
From what I understand...
Kenner - Travelling in July/August round Europe, Africa
Sammy - Obviously a kid makes it tough
Drewie - going over Xmas (may hopefully bump into you somewhere over there!)
Good luck to everyone, I hope you enjoy your trips and if your travelling UK in 2009 there should be a place to crash at (once i can afford it!) |

Is funny looking back to the start. Just about all of our plans have changed.
At this stage I'll be looking at a 2 or 3 month 'holiday' rather than a 6+ month stay even though it is tempting.
Lucky enough to have about 5 houses to choose from in Scotland so can easily base myself there for free while heading to as many matches as possible and also I'm keen to travel around other parts of Europe to see some football.
Not too sure at the moment when I want to head over. December and Jan would be ideal considering all the Leeds matches back to back over the festive period but I'm still weighing all that up ($$$, work etc).
Things change though so who knows, everything I just wrote will probably be completely different to what I end up doing! |

Headingly if fine if you like loose student girls/boys, cheap old mouldy housing, cheap indian curries, cricket, rugby league, university gigs, live music, stroll to city, hospital to sew up the stitches, cheap prostitutes (ask Peter Sutcliffe)
I'm off when the house sells about September. im really nervous about this move tbh. Probably move to York (its a bit gentler on the kids) |

Be care full in morrocco. I was there in 1980 and chased, harrazed, jailed, bought myself a girl (card game) won a camel and a carpet. All in 2 weeks.
The Morrocan Black is deadly stuff. Dont leave your passport in your room use hotel safe and never keep heaps of money with you.
Can be dangerous mate. well it was then! |
